The National Autism Center (NAC) in Oman was established within the framework of national priorities aimed at developing the system of care and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities, and enhancing the quality and efficiency of specialized services provided to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This comes in response to the rapid growth in demand, the increasing diversity and complexity of needs, and ongoing scientific and professional advancements in this field. As a national specialized entity, the Center focuses on delivering comprehensive rehabilitation services, developing therapeutic and intervention programs, supporting families, and promoting social and economic inclusion.
The Center’s national role aligns with approved government policies related to the care and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, and is consistent with the State’s strategic direction toward strengthening the social services system, improving quality of life, and promoting the principles of social justice and equal opportunities. The National Autism Center is considered one of the institutional pillars supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly within the Human and Society axis, through its contribution to empowering individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, enhancing their independence, and increasing their active participation in society.
The Center also serves as a national institutional enabler that strengthens integration among relevant government entities, private sector institutions, and civil society organizations. This is achieved through building partnerships, exchanging expertise, and coordinating efforts to advance autism services at the national level. Such integration maximizes the social and economic impact of rehabilitation services and supports national directions toward inclusion, empowerment, and reducing social and economic burdens on families.
In light of the continuous increase in demand for autism-related services and the growing complexity and diversity of needs, the Center’s regulatory and organizational role emerges as a key pillar in ensuring service quality, unifying professional standards, and supporting the development of relevant policies and programs. This contributes to the sustainability of national efforts, optimal utilization of available resources, and strengthening the readiness of the social services system to respond to current and future needs.
