FAQ: Do my courses meet QABA requirements?
Have you already completed coursework for ABA certification? Find out how the courses you have already completed may be used towards your QBA, QASP-S, and ABAT certification with QABA.
Qualified Behavior Analyst (QBA)
If you have completed applied behavior analysis (ABA) coursework from an accredited university for higher education, QABA will accept your coursework for the QBA exam. Most university ABA programs meet 90% of the QBA coursework requirements. You may also use courses from a master’s in psychology, special education, and other related programs. Courses that are missing may be completed through a pre-approved coursework provider.
Use the QBA Competencies Worksheet alongside your university transcripts to review which courses you have already completed. For more detailed information about each competency, review the QBA Competency Standards. Most QBA candidates find that the missing courses are
1. Autism Core Knowledge (20 hours)
2. Training and Supervision (20 hours)
If you have a master’s degree from an accredited university for higher education in a field that is not related to ABA, QABA will accept your master’s degree but you will need to complete the 270 hours coursework from a pre-approved coursework provider. Please contact the coursework providers directly for more details.
Qualified Autism Services Practitioner – Supervisor (QASP-S)
The QASP-S requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university for higher education. If you have a degree in a similar field to ABA, you may use courses from your degree and apply them to the QASP-S. Use the QASP-S Competencies Worksheet alongside your university transcripts to review which courses you have already completed. One common course that may be included in your degree is ethics. For more detailed information about each competency, review the QASP-S Competency Standards. Courses that are missing may be completed through a pre-approved coursework provider. Most QASP-S candidates find that the missing courses are
1. Autism Core Knowledge (15 hours)
2. Training and Supervision (8 hours)
3. Core Principles of ABA
If you have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university for higher education in a field that is not related to ABA, QABA will accept your bachelor’s degree but you will need to complete the 188 hours coursework from a pre-approved coursework provider. Please contact the coursework providers directly for more details.
Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT)
For those who have completed behavior technician courses for a different accredited certifying entity, these courses will be accepted along with supplemental courses from a pre-approved coursework provider. You will need to submit evidence of your 40 hours of coursework to the pre-approved coursework provider to verify and then enroll in the supplemental courses. If your current training does not include specific content areas required of the ABAT (such as autism, pivotal response training) these will need to be completed with an ABAT coursework provider.
Please contact the pre-approved provider directly for details on how to register. Once you have completed the additional courses required by QABA, you will receive a 40 hours ABAT coursework certificate of completion. This certificate may be used to sit for the ABAT exam with QABA.
